  1. What are the BIG discoveries you made as a result of this experience?

The biggest discoveries I have made with this experience is that little things means the most. I was interesting to talk to a new person I never talked to and her just telling me about her object and at first I thought its just a picture but that pictures means the world to her. Another big discovery I found out about my object was that my Grandpa apply to become a golden apple scholar. He didn't tell me that when he first gave it to me. He just told me that recently.

2. How did your experience connect to asking questions, making connections, and trying new things?

My experience connect to me asking question because my Grandpa is someone that is important to me. When she started to talk about her Grandpa, I automatically started to get excited because we both had something in common. This experience has taught me to not take things for granted because u can lose it at any time. That made me to appreciate my grandparents more because life is not promise. Another new thing that I'm going to try is to tell the people in my life that I appreciate them, I want my family and friends to know how important they are to me.

3. How did your experience impact your thinking moving forward?

This experience has impact my thinking in so many ways. I have learn to enjoy the good times with people and don't be afraid to meet new people. Now after this experience I have made a new friend and she is so nice. We have a few things in common and I can learn so much from her. I really enjoy doing this experience, it was fun doing and writing about it.

Be Your Own Detective: challenge #2
               Reflection:

This experience taught me there is always room for improvement. I have been doing hair since I was 14 years old. When I first started doing hair it wasn’t the best, as time began to go on I started to get better and better. I love doing people hair because when my clients get out of my chair their confidence change, they are glowing. I enjoy interviewing my cousin for this challenge. She is a professional hairstylist and she has been doing hair over 20 years. Talking to her this weekend was fun, she has taught me some new and different tips to do while braiding hair and some new products I should try out. I love talking to my clients about hairstyles and products, they give me great advice as well. I never realized how much I enjoyed doing hair and why people trust me doing their hair. I asked my aunt about it and she told me because of the way I treat my clients when they are in my chair and how I change their whole appearance within a few hours.

Being a hairstylist isn’t easy how people make it to be. There are so many decisions you have to make when doing someone's hair. I have had clients that would want the same exact hairstyle they see in the picture. That is not possible because I’m not that person who did that hairstyle in the picture but I can do the best I can to achieve that hairstyle. Every time, I do someone's hair I make the hairstyle becoming on their face. The way I do hair, I tell a story through my work. I love when a client wants color in their hair because when people put color in their hair they are taking a chance to see how the color would look on them. Everybody can not put in color or do color correctly so I take honor when my clients trust me to put in colored hair. Doing hair has taught me so much and has pushed me to keep going don't give up.  When I first started doing hair I didn’t believe in myself, I felt like it wasn’t a big deal there are so many hairstylists. Once, I went through a situation where I wasn’t able to get my hair done. I knew then I had to do my own hair in order to get out of the situation and I did. I received so many compliments on my hair and people were asking me who did my hair.  I didn’t know how to feel about it, I started to think that I should start taking this hair thing seriously but that meant I had to practice more styles on myself which I did. I have grown a passion for doing hair, I have become very patient with the things I do because doing hair is very time consuming.

I can blend my passion for hair and talking to people by talking to my clients. Maybe I will start doing classes for people who would like to learn how to braid hair. I have been thinking about having one on one time with any new clients so I can get to know them a little bit better.

Flash Fiction- The Dark Shadow

On a cold Thursday night, there were two girls walking home from work. One girl was on the phone with her brother and the other one was listening to music. They were so focus on their phone until they notice a dark shadow walking behind them on the sidewalk. They started to walk faster and faster. But they both trip on a big rock. Suddenly, the dark shadow disappears. They got up slowly and started to look for their keys. They started to walk again but they turn down the wrong street. The shadow was back but much bigger. The streetlights went in and out, the girls tenacious grab each other hand. They hear a tapping noise like someone is tapping their shoulder. They took off running home not even looking back. They got a phone call from an unknown number, they answer and they hear a loud frightening sneeze.

My Question:
How do you feel about stylists doing people of other nationality's hair?

  1. What lessons/thoughts have you learned as a result of this experience? Why are they important or do they stand out to you?

I learned that it's ok to learn how to do hair of a different nationality. I know a lot of people have their own personal opinions about it. I have learned that it shouldn't matter, if you have a client that wants their hair done then do their hair. It was interesting to hear about different people's point of views about it. Hearing other people's opinions was good to know how they feel about stylists doing different nationality hair and I hope it helps me to know more about different hairstyles. I have been doing people's hair from different cultures ever since I first started doing hair. At first I received a lot of backlash about me doing other people's hair that is not from my culture. I felt like it shouldn’t really matter who’s hair I should do.

  1. How might understanding different perspectives contribute to who we are as learners? Humans?

I think understanding different perspectives helps us to understand that everybody thinks differently. Sometimes we might not agree with everything that person says but we learn a new way to think about it. Having different perspectives is good to have, sometimes we are so focused on our one opinion and don’t think about others.

  1. How did this challenge impact your thinking moving forward?

This challenge impacts my thinking moving forward by listening to what others have to say. Sometimes people have the same opinion that you do and you shouldn’t feel ashamed about it. This challenge has helped me to not second guess myself and just be comfortable with what I’m doing. When people ask me to do their hair, I feel honored. But I’m learning not to share my success with everybody because everyone might not agree.
