HOMAGO

HOMAGO Goal

My HOMAGO goal is to explore different applications and technologies to help and prepare students to learn some new ways for them to become more organized with their school work and goal keeping. I want them to use sources that are going to truly help them be successful with organizing  their homework, calendar, etc. to guide them to become a better student. Also, to discover different applications for social and emotional learning for students.

Week 1

Week 1 reflection

Some apps I found for teachers and students to do for SEL is Social Express and Smiling Mind apps. My mom told me about these apps that she use with her students in the classroom. Her student really benefit from using these apps. Also, I found some apps students can use to keep themselves organize with their school work and Google Calendar, Note Taking and Reclaim app. Couple of my friends use google calendar and reclaim which help them to say very organize. Middle schoolers would benefit having a calendar thats online because they always have to keep their chromebooks. All they have to do is open their Chromebook and go to that website to see what they have to do.I went on my teacher twitter account and found some hashtags that goes with the topics that I want to talk about in my HOMAGO. I look at a SEL hashtag and I seen pictures that teachers took of their class doing SEL with their students. I also have seem other teachers tweeting why they do SEL with their students. One teacher tweeted that her students needed a break and did some SEL with students. I learned about some many different apps that they have for middle schoolers that I didn't have when I was younger. Theses apps are very helpful for our students to be successful in school.

Week 2- "Hang out"

Social and Emotional Learning is something new that the educational world is doing now. Each teacher is suppose to to take the time out in their curriculum to give their kids social and emotional learning. Young adolescents are going through so much mentally, physically and emotionally. Having social and emotional learning time for them is great because we all need a break something.  I have been noticing that schools are starting to help students to stay organize with their school work and also having school time to work on their work if they didn't finish in class.  When I was  growing up none of my schools talked about how to manage a social and emotional life in our everyday life. Also, when I was growing up my schools didn't give up alot of time to be organize with our work and everyday life, I had to take a college bound class in school that help me to stay organize with all my school work. If I didn't understand something in class, I would have to stay after school just to get help with my work and now that time is embed in their school day. We talked a little bit about mental health but it wasn't explain how to take care of your mental health. I'm interested in seeing that their are some many apps and videos that are for SEL and how to be organize. Which makes me happy to see all these resources that are for our young adolescents. The first resource that I found a TedTalk called "Emotional Intelligence From a Teenage Perspective" and it talked about how emotionally intelligence impact his life, the different ways how he had to maintain all his emotions alone. I included this in my HOMAGO "hang out" research because the TedTalk gives that teenage perspective on how teenagers think about deal with their emotional on an everyday bases. Sometimes adults don't think about what you'd adolescents are going through in their personal life. Some students come to school just to get away from what is going on at home and they need that break. Thats why it's so important that we should take some time out reflection on how we are feeling. Also, we need to teach our students how to deal with their emotions and let them know that its ok to express your emotions. My second resource is some social emotional activities & transitions blog. This blog give us as adults ideas for SEL activities for our students. The last resource is for middle schoolers to stay more organize with their personal & school life. We as teachers should teach our students organize with their materials for class and other important things that have to do.

Week 3

Week 3 reflection

The first app that I mess around with a app called "Motivation" they send you motivation quotes to your phone everyday. With this app you can share quotes with your friends and through social media. This app give out positive reminders are one of the simplest and most powerful tools for mental growth. One of the strengths that this app has is you can find any topics that you need motivation in and help you work on your stress, keep calm and focus on what you are trying to achieve. I picked this app because personally I be keeping motivation to accomplish some goals I have in my life. We be needing that push sometimes to keep us going. I had to learn how to find other ways to keep me motivated because my mom always couldn't give me that support I needed, she had her own stuff going on. Another thing about this app is that you can select if you would to be spiritual motivational quotes or other ones.  That is something that I love about this app because you can select the topic you need motivation in and work kind of motivation quote you would like. This app is a free for everyone, they have so many things that you can do to keep you motivated through out the day. Also, you can get notifications on your home screen about your quote of the day. I think would be a great app for young adolescents to use in their everyday life.

Week 4 reflection

The second app that I mess around with a app called" Planner & Journal- Zinnia" on this app you can stay organize and also be able to journal daily. This app is basically a two and one you can have write out what you have plan for the week and reflect on how your day went. This is a free app that you can use all you have to do is sign up with your email. They will send you daily reminders to help you stay on track with staying organize.  With this app you can create some fun and very detailed planners on here for certain designs that you want to use you have to pay for them. In my opinion, I think this is a really great app to use to help you stay organize with your life. Young adolescents be having so much going on and they are not to keep up with what is going on. This will help them to be able to stay organize and also to reflect or express how they are feeling. I think people need to take advantage of these kind of apps because this app with help them therewith their everyday life. I think its good for us to write down with what we are coping with. Sometimes when we are not able to talk to anybody with what is going on, your write about what you are going through. I will be using this in the classroom because we can start off every morning right when we start classss because I want to allow my students to have time

Week 5

Messing around app #3

The app that I messed with this week was "Meditation by smoothing Pod" on this app you can schedule that will come on everyday at the same time. You can meditate for 2 mins or 2 hours a day. There are different kind of meditation sounds you can listen too well you are meditating. Their mission is to make relaxation and mindfulness available to all, we also created meditations for kids as as a way to introduce them to the practice of mindfulness. Young adolescents will enjoy using this app because they are able to pick what kind of songs they would like to use for their meditation. Also, this app give you reminds for your mediation time which is good because sometime people forget and might miss their mediation. You can change the time and day to the time that works for you. Week 6 reflection

The app that I messed with this week was "Steezy- Learn How to Dance" on this app you can learn the newest dances and workouts. Every week there is a new dance that comes out on this app and they teach you step by step for each dance. There are some professional dancers that will be teaching some of new and latest dances that are out right now. Also, they have different workout routines that you can do as well. I think this app will be great for young adolescents because they have so much energy and sometimes they don't know where they can put that engird to good use. With this app they are able to use this everywhere they go and get to learn new dances for free.  This app is a good way for them to release that energy in a positive way. Dancing is a outlet for everybody, people dance just to relief stress and tell their story through their dancing. Middle schoolers love to know about the newest trends and Tiktok dances and now they will be able to learn them on this app. When they are learning the latest dances and the choreography is fast you can slow the speed of the video down. Sometimes when we don't want to talk about what we are going through, we can talk through our dances.

Week 7 reflection

This app will impact on learning on how students will know how to express their feelings in different ways than others. They will be also learning how to stay organize with their work and to reflect on their day. It will allow for me and my students to create a schedule for ourselves daily and still be able to have time to journal about what is going on in our day. Young adolescents be having so much going on and they don't know how to tell people what is going on with them. Having them learn how to express themselves through writing will be better for them. They always like to say they didn't have enough time to finish or they have forgot when to do something. With this app they can complete two things at once, they can write important dates down like when their assignments are due and when they have other important dues they have to know. This app they can get on their phone and computer which is perfect for them because everyones have chrome books now. I will give my students time every morning to write in their journal, we will be having some writing prompts to give us to what to talk about in our journal. Students will have the opportunity to do free hand writing which will be on Fridays so they can sum up how their week and what is something that they are looking forward to the weekend. Once they finish with their journal writing,  they have time to write into their calendars to see what they have add into it or take something out. I will post any assignments or important things that we have to do in school on the board everyday so the students can add it to their calendar. I want my students to know that I want them to be successful so if I have to give them time to do what they have to do in order to success I will do that. I want them to use this app so they can learn how to be responsible and organize with there stuff. This app will be showing them that they have to be responsible with completing their assignments by the due date because they should have all those assignments within the calendar. I would show this app to my whole team so everybody can enforce the importance that each student should have and use this app to be successful.

Week 8

Geek out

The software that I'm choosing to use in my classroom is called Zinnia. Through all the other apps I have research I think that Zinnia is a great fit for my classroom. Through Zinnia, students can create their own planner and journal. They are able to express themselves through writing and drawing. With this app they will be able to express themselves through their journal. In my classroom I will have my students do this on a daily basis because they have so much going on and this will be a great way for them to relieve their stress. I want to give them time to get themselves together. I think this is a really great app for students because its mobile, there are a lot of thinks you can do with it.
