I had a great time meeting with Little Village! Im very amazed to see how they take care of their school and communities. They value their students, they are giving them so many opportunities for them to be successful. They are meeting them where they at with their social and emotional learning. I enjoyed learning about the history about Little Village, I like how they still using their old building that they have. They had this theatre which is called Atlantic Theatre and now they use that to host events for the children in the communities. They have movie nights there, arts & crafts activities and so much more.I love how they use their community to its full potential. When they talked about how their principal is very hands on. The principal works with the teachers and listen to them. They all work together to made a welcoming environment. They work together as a team, they are one voice. One of the connection I notice was the Little Village use AMLE 18 characteristics that we have learned about. They use those characteristics in their classroom and in their community. That helps the students to get a hand on middle school experience. Little Village shows that those characteristics are important. Another connection was social and emotional learning, we have discuss this in class and how important it is for middle schoolers. It's important to let the students to get to know each other they can feel comfortable around each other. I enjoyed the guest speakers they were great.

I am also really struck by how the community is valued in the schools. You could hear that in both presentations.

I liked how you connected our AMLE characteristics we've been learning about with The Little Village. It's one thing to just learn about something, but to see it applied in a real world scenario makes it that much better of a learning experience. I also touched on the fact that the teachers feel like they can work WITH the principal rather than FOR them. I took a lot away from this visit and I can tell you did as well. Good job!
